Pastor Chris Okafor surrenders to police

The Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor, has surrendered himself to the police following allegations of multiple rape and other offences likely to breach public peace.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that the cleric turned himself in after initially failing to honour an invitation from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti.

According to The PUNCH, Wednesday, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, explained that Okafor was first invited through his lawyer but did not appear as agreed.

“When he was invited, he got to us through his lawyer that he would be appearing on Monday. We waited for him on Monday, but he didn’t show up, and I directed that he should be arrested,” Jimoh said.

According to the police commissioner, the pastor later presented himself to the authorities.

“Subsequently, he showed up yesterday (Tuesday). Yes, he showed up yesterday,” he added.

Jimoh disclosed that the matter has now been transferred to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Sylvester Alabi, for further investigation.

“We later learned that the same matter had already been opened at the Zone 2 headquarters under the Assistant Inspector-General of Police. I verified it, and he told me the matter has been under investigation for about three weeks,” Jimoh said.

He explained that the decision to hand over the case was based on the AIG’s supervisory role.

“The AIG occupies a higher office than mine as a commander and is my immediate supervisor. Since he is already handling the matter, we handed it back to the Zone,” he stated.

Addressing concerns raised by alleged victims, the police commissioner said the force now takes complaints made on social media seriously.

“Social media has become a veritable space for people to lodge complaints. We no longer wait for people to come physically before we act in the public interest, especially when such conduct can lead to a breakdown of law and order,” Jimoh said.

The controversy surrounding Okafor began in mid-December 2025 after multiple allegations surfaced online. Nollywood actress Doris Ogala accused the pastor of maintaining a prolonged sexual relationship with her since 2017, alleging broken promises of marriage, sharing of explicit content, and actions that contributed to the collapse of her previous marriage.

Amid mounting public pressure, Okafor reportedly addressed his congregation on December 28, 2025, where he apologised for past “mistakes” and knelt at the pulpit while seeking forgiveness.

There are also reports that the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria is considering disciplinary measures against him, while the pastor has stepped aside from his pastoral responsibilities pending the outcome of investigations.

The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that adequate security has been provided for the alleged victims, adding that investigations are ongoing at SCID, Panti, and the Zone 2 headquarters.
