The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Garuba Aminu, a 20-year-old man allegedly found with what police believe to be a human lower limb.
According to the Command, the incident occurred on 20 February 2026 around the Commercial Oroki area of Oyo, where residents reportedly noticed the suspect behaving suspiciously while posing as a scavenger.
Police spokespersons said that the community members, acting on their instincts, conducted a search of the suspect.
During the search, they discovered a concealed body part hidden in a sack filled with discarded plastic items. “The vigilant action of the residents played a critical role in exposing this alarming discovery,” the Command stated.
A joint police patrol team arrived shortly after receiving the report and prevented an angry crowd from harming the suspect.
“Our officers dispersed the gathering mob professionally and ensured the suspect was rescued from immediate danger,” the Command added. The recovered item was taken into custody for forensic analysis.
Aminu has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for deeper inquiry.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing to determine the source and circumstances behind the suspected body part.
The Command expressed appreciation for the support of the Inspector-General of Police, noting that “enhanced policing strategies and community partnerships continue to strengthen crime prevention efforts across the country.”
Residents were urged to report suspicious behavior promptly but were warned against mob actions.
“Taking the law into one’s hands is unlawful and can jeopardize justice,” the police emphasized.
