Oyebanji reappoints information commissioner days after cabinet shake-up

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has reinstated Mr. Taiwo Olatunbosun as Commissioner for Information, less than a week after announcing the dissolution of the State Executive Council.

The decision was conveyed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, dated August 18, 2025.

According to the letter, Olatunbosun — a former Deputy Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly — is expected to “continue to function as Commissioner for Information” with immediate effect.

Confirming the development in a statement issued on Monday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, said: “His Excellency, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the return of Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun to the State Executive Council as Commissioner for Information. The recall takes effect immediately.”

This move comes on the heels of a major shake-up in the state cabinet announced on August 11, where the governor directed commissioners, special advisers and heads of departments to hand over to permanent secretaries following the dissolution of the council.

At the time, only six commissioners — including those heading Finance, Works and Human Capital Development — were retained to ensure continuity in key sectors.

Explaining the rationale behind the restructuring, Oyebanji said it was intended “to inject fresh energy into governance” and reaffirm his commitment to the administration’s “shared prosperity” agenda.

“It is a strategic decision to reposition government for better service delivery,” the governor was quoted as saying.
