Over 24,000 senior paramilitary officers promoted across Nigeria

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has approved the promotion of 24,202 senior officers across the nation’s four paramilitary agencies.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior and Board Chairman, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, while addressing journalists in Abuja on Monday.

He was represented by the Secretary to the Board, Abdulmalik Jubril

Tunji-Ojo explained that the promotion constitutes the second batch of senior officer promotions in 2025.

“The promotions were based on national spread, performance records, ratification, and the availability of vacancies,” he said.

According to the minister, the Nigerian Correctional Service led with 11,426 promotions, followed by the Nigeria Immigration Service with 4,336, the Federal Fire Service with 2,581, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps with 5,859 officers elevated.

“The promotion is aimed at boosting the morale of our personnel and enhancing service delivery in their respective agencies,” Tunji-Ojo stated.

He added that the move aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to improve the welfare of serving personnel.

“Promotions had been stagnant in recent years, but this administration is committed to the well-being of officers to better tackle the security challenges facing our country. Among the incentives introduced to the ministry, this promotion is particularly noteworthy,” the minister noted.

The four agencies under the board’s supervision include the Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Fire Service, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
