Judiciary workers in Osun State have suspended the industrial action that kept courts shut for nearly three months, directing members to return to work from Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
The decision was announced by the Chairman of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria in the state, Comrade Idris Adedayo Adeniran, in a statement issued in Osogbo on Monday.
Adeniran said the strike, which began on September 19, 2025, was suspended to allow affected staff participate in pending promotion exercises and to give room for ongoing engagements with the Judicial Service Commission.
“In light of recent developments, I hereby declare that the strike action embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, Osun State Branch, since September 19, 2025, is suspended forthwith,” Adeniran stated.
According to him, the suspension will enable members appear before the Judicial Service Commission for the 2024 promotion exercise and also allow the management of the three arms of the Osun State Judiciary to submit the list of officers due for promotion in 2025.
He disclosed that progress has been recorded on some of the union’s demands, particularly on promotions, noting that the JSC has commenced sittings.
“We are pleased to report that the Judicial Service Commission has rectified the promotion of junior staff for the 2024 exercise, and we appreciate the prompt action taken by the Commission,” he said.
Adeniran added that staff affected by the 2024 promotion are expected to appear before the commission on Tuesday, December 16, while those listed for the 2025 promotion exercise are scheduled to appear on Wednesday, December 17.
“The JSC has requested that eligible members affected by the 2025 promotion exercise appear on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. All concerned members are urged to comply and also inform their colleagues,” he added.
The JUSUN chairman also attributed the breakthrough to the intervention of the Department of State Services following a meeting convened by the Osun State Director of the agency, which brought together key stakeholders in the judiciary and labour sector.
“We wish to express our profound appreciation to the Director of DSS, Osun State, Mr Kehinde Ayoola, and his team for their tireless efforts in resolving the JUSUN strike.
Their intervention has been invaluable in promoting peace and stability in the state,” Adeniran said.
He further appealed for sustained mediation to ensure a lasting resolution of the issues that led to the industrial action, stressing the union’s commitment to dialogue.
The strike had crippled judicial activities across the state, following disagreements over welfare issues and promotion-related matters.
