Osun election: 1.9m voters collect PVCs, says INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission has disclosed that 1,906,390 Permanent Voter Cards have been collected by registered voters in Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The figure represents 81.50 per cent of the 2,339,233 registered voters in the state, while 426,842 PVCs, representing 18.50 per cent, remain uncollected.

INEC made this known in a statement issued on Thursday by the National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna.

According to the commission, the uncollected PVCs have been kept with the Central Bank of Nigeria in accordance with its established procedure.

The commission added that “the remaining 426,842 PVCs, representing 18.50 per cent, have been safely deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria in line with the Commission’s established practice.”

INEC further revealed that 6,101 voters who sought replacement of lost, damaged or defaced PVCs printed downloadable versions of their voter cards.

The commission explained that the downloadable PVCs were printed by applicants who had gone through the replacement process.

It also stated that a detailed breakdown showing the number of PVCs collected at each polling unit had been made available on its official website.

As political parties intensify preparations for the August 15 election, INEC said it was fully prepared to conduct the exercise across the state.

The electoral body assured stakeholders, including political parties, civil society groups, the media and residents, that adequate preparations had been made for the poll.

Haruna said, “The commission reassures political parties, civil society organisations, media, and the good people of Osun State of its total readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent, and inclusive election on Saturday, 15th August 2026.”
