A tragic motorcycle accident in Jigawa State has claimed the life of one person and left four others severely injured.

The incident occurred around 2:20 p.m. on Friday along the Kafin Hausa–Auno–Sabon Gari Ruba Road in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area.

According to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the crash involved a motorcycle transporting six young individuals returning from a farm when it suddenly went up in flames.

Spokesperson for the Jigawa State NSCDC, Badruddeen Tijjani, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Saturday in Dutse, the state capital.

He revealed that the riders sustained serious burns and were quickly rescued by NSCDC officers from the Kafin Hausa Division, led by CSC Nehemiah John Gata.

“The victims were immediately evacuated to the General Hospital, Kafin Hausa, for emergency medical attention,” Tijjani said.

Those involved in the accident were identified as Iliya Ashura Makera (15), Babanan Musa (22), Mubarak Ibrahim Tahir (14), Abdullmumuni Garba (12), and Abdulsalam Garba (14).

Sadly, 12-year-old Abdullmumuni Garba, who was referred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for specialized treatment due to the severity of his injuries, died before reaching the facility.

While investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident, the NSCDC assured that they are offering support to the affected families.

In a condolence message, the State NSCDC Commandant, Bala Bodinga, expressed sympathy to the bereaved family and emphasised the need for safety consciousness among road users, especially young riders.

“We urge all parents and guardians to educate their children on the importance of safe riding and avoiding overloading. Road safety is a collective responsibility,” Bodinga said.

He also called on traditional leaders and other stakeholders to intensify awareness campaigns in their communities to prevent similar tragedies.

The victims who survived the crash are still undergoing treatment at the hospital.
