The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has taken a swipe at Aloy Ejimakor, one of the legal representatives of Nnamdi Kanu, for participating in the recent #FreeNnamdiKanu protest in Abuja.

In a post shared via his official X account (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Onanuga condemned Ejimakor’s involvement in the protest, which was organised by activist Omoyele Sowore, describing the demonstration as “shambolic” and “ill-advised.”

“I spotted Aloy Ejimakor, one of Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers, among the small group of protesters mobilised in Abuja by Omoyele Sowore,” Onanuga wrote.

“I wonder what Mr. Ejimakor was thinking when he decided to join this shambolic protest.”

Onanuga emphasized that Ejimakor’s public participation in a protest related to a case still under judicial consideration was inappropriate and violated legal ethics.

“As a lawyer, he should be aware of the principle of sub judice, particularly in relation to the ongoing treason case before the court,” he added.

“The prosecution has concluded its case, and it is now incumbent upon Mr. Ejimakor and the other lawyers to mount a strong defence for Kanu.”

The presidential aide further accused Ejimakor of engaging in what he termed “extra-legal tactics” rather than focusing on legal proceedings.

“Rather than focusing on preparing a strong case, Mr. Ejimakor has resorted to extra-legal tactics, joining a career anarchist to influence the process,” Onanuga wrote.

He also called on legal regulatory bodies to take note of Ejimakor’s conduct and consider disciplinary measures.

“Ejimakor’s action questions his adherence to professional ethics. Legal authorities should consider appropriate sanctions for the unethical conduct of the bearded lawyer,” he stated.

The protest, which began around 7:00 a.m. near the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, was dispersed by security forces using tear gas. Sowore, alongside other demonstrators, was present at the scene.
