Olise shines as Bayern beat Dortmund to win German Supercup

Bayern Munich have started the new season with silverware after defeating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 to win the German Supercup at Signal Iduna Park.

The Bundesliga champions took control of the contest in the 28th minute when Nathaniel Brown finished off a cross from Michael Olise.

Olise then doubled Bayern’s advantage in first-half stoppage time, calmly finding the net to give Vincent Kompany’s side a comfortable lead at the break.

Dortmund responded after the interval and reduced the deficit with 15 minutes remaining through Fábio Silva, setting up a tense finish.

Their hopes of completing the comeback were dealt a blow when Ramy Bensebaini was sent off late in the game for a rash challenge.

Bayern survived a late spell of pressure, with Dortmund’s Maximilian Beier firing over the bar, to secure the trophy and make an early statement ahead of the Bundesliga campaign.

Kompany’s side will begin their league title defence against VfB Stuttgart on Friday, while Dortmund will host Hamburg the following day.

Bayern winger Jamal Musiala missed the Supercup as he continues his recovery after suffering two collapses during pre-season.
