Authorities of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, in Ogun State have expelled 365 students for allegedly securing admission into the institution using forged academic credentials, including fake National Diploma results and falsified transcripts.
The decision was confirmed in a statement issued by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajibola, who said the action followed a comprehensive verification exercise carried out on admission and registration documents submitted by students.
According to the statement, the affected students were enrolled across various Higher National Diploma programmes before the fraud was uncovered.
Ajibola explained that the institution uncovered the cases after a detailed screening process aimed at verifying the authenticity of academic records submitted by students.
“The expulsion followed a comprehensive verification exercise conducted on the credentials submitted by students during the admission and registration processes,” he said.
He added that the institution would not tolerate academic dishonesty, stressing that the move is part of efforts to clean up the system.
“This decision underscores the institution’s commitment to sanitising the academic system and reinforcing its zero-tolerance policy against fraudulent practices and other forms of academic misconduct,” he added.
Breakdown of the expelled students showed that the School of Communication and Information Technology recorded the highest number, with 156 students affected. It was followed by the School of Business and Management Studies with 117 students.
Others include the School of Science and Technology with 54 students, the School of Engineering with 36, and the School of Environmental Studies with two students.
The Rector of the institution, Koye Jolaoso, warned prospective applicants against the use of fake academic documents to gain admission.
He said the decision reflects the polytechnic’s commitment to academic integrity and its drive to maintain credibility in Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
According to him, the institution remains focused on promoting excellence and transparency as part of efforts to reposition the school as a model of professionalism.
