Nigeria’s Abubakar joins Portuguese side Famalicão on five-year deal

Nigerian forward, Umar Abubakar, has finalized a permanent move to Portuguese Primeira Liga side Famalicão.

The 19-year-old joins the club from academy outfit Footwork FC, inking a five-year deal that will keep him at the Estádio Municipal de Famalicão until 2029.

Abubakar is coming off an impressive loan stint at Belgian club Jong Gent, where he netted 21 goals in 27 appearances.

Despite his prolific form, the Belgian side was unable to secure a permanent transfer for the promising striker.

Speaking to Famalicão’s official website after signing, the teenager shared his enthusiasm about the new chapter in his career.

“I’m very happy to have signed for Futebol Clube de Famalicão. I know it’s a good team with talented players, many of them young, and led by a strong coaching staff,” he said.

“This is a club that has consistently performed well in Portuguese football and offers excellent conditions for players to develop and improve.”

“I hope to integrate into the team as quickly as possible and contribute to building a strong group.”
