New Zealand Tennis star, Lulu Sun, has announced that she is taking an indefinite break from the sport, bringing a pause to her professional career after a challenging period on the Grand Slam circuit.
Sun revealed the decision in a statement, thanking her supporters for standing by her throughout her journey.
“who I’d like to thank for their continued trust and patronage, and for being an important part of my journey.”
The New Zealand tennis player rose to prominence during her impressive run at Wimbledon, where she reached the quarter-finals in 2024 after entering the tournament as a qualifier.
However, she has struggled to reproduce that form at subsequent Grand Slam events.
Since her breakthrough Wimbledon campaign, Sun has managed just one Grand Slam victory in six appearances.
Her most recent notable result came at the 2025 US Open, where the left-hander advanced to the second round before her campaign ended.
Sun’s decision to step away from tennis indefinitely comes as she looks to take time away from competitive action following a difficult stretch in her career.
