The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Sunday revealed its operatives intercepted a woman attempting to export cocaine concealed in her body and luggage to Iran through the Port Harcourt International Airport.

Ihensekhien Miracle Obehi, disguised in a hijab, was caught with drugs hidden in her private part, stomach, and a false compartment in her handbag.

NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi stated that Obehi was arrested on Sunday, May 3, 2025, at the departure hall while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight to Iran via Doha.

“Following credible intelligence, during a search, she was found to have inserted three wraps of cocaine in her private part, and two large parcels hidden in false compartments of her handbag while she swallowed 67 pellets of the Class A drug,” Babafemi said.

After days of excretion observation, she expelled all 67 pellets. “She claimed she was to swallow 70 pellets of cocaine but after ingesting 67 pieces, she could no longer swallow the remaining three and decided to insert them into her private part,” he added. The total weight of the seized cocaine was 2.523 kilograms.

In a separate operation, NDLEA officers at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, on Friday, May 9, arrested 22-year-old British national Campell Kaizra Kofi Johannes Slifer, arriving from Thailand via Doha on a Qatar Airways flight. His two suitcases contained 35 parcels of Loud (a potent cannabis strain) weighing 37.60kg. “Campell claimed he had twice been convicted in the UK for drug trafficking and robbery and was recruited in London to transport the drugs to Nigeria,” Babafemi disclosed.

On Wednesday, May 7, NDLEA operatives in Niger State intercepted a fuel truck (ABJ 693 XU) and three other vehicles along the Suleja-Kaduna road, recovering 246 bags of skunk (3,047kg). Four suspects were arrested: Christopher Onyema, 47; Benedict Etineruba Young, 54; Chukwudi Ujue Jerry, 30; and Mohammed Abdullahi Danasabe. The seized vehicles included a Honda Odyssey (YAB 667 CZ), Gulf bus (GWA 125 TQ), and another Honda Odyssey (ABJ 230 CN).

In Lagos (Oja Amukoko, Ijora), two suspects (Eze Chekube Emmanuel and Ike Samuel Chinyerem) were arrested on Thursday, May 8, with 109,914 pills of tramadol, swinol, and nitrozepam. In Kaduna (Gwantu), two suspects (Lukman Sabo Umar, 23, and Tukur Ammadu, 20) were caught with 52.5kg of skunk in a bus on Tuesday, May 6.

Along Kwara’s Bode Saadu-Jebba Expressway, Rufai Nasiru was arrested on Monday, May 5, with 45,400 tramadol pills (225mg). In Bauchi, a Toyota Tundra (RBC 111 DW) was intercepted on Tuesday, May 6, with 505kg of skunk (526 blocks), leading to the arrest of Isaac Onogure, 37, and Ikechukwu Peter, 44.

In Kano (Rijiyar Zaki), a raid on Saturday, May 10, led to the seizure of 775 litres of codeine syrup (31 kegs) and the arrest of Hafizu Isa Uman, 34, and Ismail Shehu, 48. In Lagos, a courier company intercepted 1.1kg of Loud hidden in a pillow from Thailand on Tuesday, May 6.

The NDLEA’s War Against Drug Abuse initiative continued nationwide, with sensitization lectures held at Federal Government College, Sokoto; Deeper Life International College, Nteje, Anambra; Martins Sanda Girls Science College, Paikoro, Niger State; Restoration Power International School, Idua Eket, Akwa Ibom; and Iseyin Central Mosque, Oyo State for the League of Imams and Alfas.

NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd.) commended operatives from Port Harcourt, Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Kwara, and Niger Commands for their efforts, praising their balance between drug supply reduction (enforcement) and drug demand reduction (awareness campaigns).
