Germany suffered a historic 1-0 defeat to Greece in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday, leaving Jürgen Klopp’s side with just one point from their opening two matches.
Dimitrios Kourbelis scored the decisive goal in the 74th minute to hand Greece their first-ever victory over Germany.
Kourbelis received a pass from Arsenal winger Christos Tzolis before evading Felix Nmecha and unleashing a shot that took a deflection off Germany captain Joshua Kimmich and found the net.
The result was another disappointing outing for Klopp’s side, who had started their campaign with a 1-1 draw away against the Netherlands.
Greece, meanwhile, followed up their opening 2-1 victory over Serbia with another important win.
Germany struggled to create clear-cut chances throughout the encounter as Greece defended deep and looked dangerous on the counter-attack.
The defeat marked Klopp’s first home match in charge of Germany and leaves the four-time world champions third in Group A2 with one point, behind Greece on six and the Netherlands on four.
Serbia are bottom without a point.
Germany will next face Serbia on October 1 before travelling to Greece three days later.
