Scotland manager Sebastien Pocognoli suffered a disappointing home debut as Switzerland secured a 3-0 victory over the hosts in their Nations League encounter at Hampden Park on Tuesday.
Scotland’s night took a difficult turn in the eighth minute when Jack Hendry was sent off after pulling back Dan Ndoye as the Swiss winger raced towards goal.
The referee initially awarded a penalty and booked Hendry, but a VAR review showed that the foul occurred just outside the box.
The decision was changed to a free-kick and Hendry was shown a red card.
Ricardo Rodriguez made the numerical advantage count, curling the resulting free-kick beyond goalkeeper Angus Gunn to put Switzerland ahead.
Pocognoli responded by introducing Stephen Welsh for Kieron Bowie as he attempted to reorganise his defence, but Switzerland continued to dominate possession and create chances.
The visitors eventually doubled their advantage in the 55th minute when Nico Elvedi converted Ndoye’s low cross from close range.
Zeki Amdouni completed the scoring eight minutes from time, firing a powerful effort past Gunn after being set up by Ndoye.
The defeat leaves Scotland with one point and no goal from their opening two Nations League matches, while Pocognoli will now look to secure his first win when his side face North Macedonia on Saturday.
