Morocco made history on Sunday night in Chile, defeating Argentina 2–0 to claim their first-ever FIFA World Cup title at any level after a stunning campaign at the Under-20 World Cup.
Yassir Zabiri, the FC Famalicão forward, was the hero of the night, striking twice in the first half to hand the North Africans a decisive lead that they confidently protected until the final whistle.
The victory capped a remarkable journey for Morocco, who had already stunned South Korea, the United States, and France in the knockout stages before toppling the six-time champions, Argentina, in the final. With the win, Morocco became the first African nation to lift the U-20 World Cup trophy since Ghana’s triumph in 2009.
For Argentina, it was a rare stumble after an unbeaten run throughout the tournament.
The South Americans were missing two of their brightest prospects, Bayer Leverkusen’s Claudio Echeverri and Real Madrid’s Franco Mastantuono, but still managed to reach the final.
The result adds another chapter to Morocco’s growing football legacy, coming just two years after their senior team made global headlines with a historic semifinal run at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
