Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has extended Christmas greetings to Christians in the state and across Nigeria, urging them to embrace love, peaceful coexistence and unity in line with the teachings of Jesus Christ.
The governor made the call in his Christmas message issued on Thursday in Ibadan through his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olarenwaju.
Makinde described Christmas as a period that underscores love and humility, stressing that the birth of Jesus Christ should inspire believers to live harmoniously with one another and their neighbours.
“Christmas symbolises love as demonstrated by the humble birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. As Christians, we must reflect this love in our daily lives and relate peacefully with others,” the governor said.
He also advised residents of Oyo State to remain alert during the Yuletide celebrations, noting that security is a shared responsibility between the government and the people.
According to him, “As a government, we have continued to prioritise the safety of lives and property, but residents also have a vital role to play by staying vigilant and observant at all times.”
Makinde urged citizens to promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies, reiterating the state government’s commitment to rapid response.
“If you see something, say something. The Oyo State Citizen Emergency Number, 615, is active, and residents are encouraged to use it to report emergencies or suspicious movements so that appropriate action can be taken swiftly,” he said.
The governor concluded by wishing Christians and all residents of the state a peaceful and joyous celebration.
“On behalf of the government and people of Oyo State, I wish our Christian brethren and all residents a Merry Christmas and a season filled with peace, love and harmony,” Makinde added.
