Lagos nabs three for illegal waste dumping on Ikotun–Igando road

The Lagos State Government has arrested three persons for illegally dumping refuse on the road median along the Ikotun–Igando corridor, as part of renewed efforts to curb environmental violations across the state.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development on Tuesday, saying the arrests were made during an early morning enforcement operation carried out on Monday.

According to Wahab, the operation was conducted by the Lagos Waste Management Authority Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Team, targeting persistent waste blackspots along the Ikotun–Igando Road.

“During the course of the operation, three individuals were apprehended for indiscriminate disposal of refuse on the road median along Ikotun–Igando Road,” the commissioner said.

He added that the suspects had been handed over to LAWMA’s legal unit for prosecution.

“The apprehended individuals have been transferred to the LAWMA legal team at the Oshodi Mobile Court for further legal proceedings,” Wahab stated.

The suspects were identified as Muosolu Ogochukwu, 35; Adedigba Kazeem, 35; and Isaac Monday, 24.

Reiterating the state government’s stance on environmental protection, Wahab warned residents against flouting sanitation laws, stressing that enforcement would be sustained.

“We remain fully committed to enforcing environmental regulations and maintaining cleanliness across Lagos. Indiscriminate dumping of waste will not be tolerated,” he said.

The commissioner noted that the arrests were part of a series of enforcement actions carried out in December to address improper waste disposal and improve environmental hygiene across the state.
