La Liga: Yamal atones for missing chance as Barcelona thrash Mallorca 3-0

Teen sensation Lamine Yamal atoned for a glaring miss by curling in a stunning long-range effort as Barcelona cruised to a 3–0 win over Mallorca on Saturday to extend their lead at the top of La Liga to four points.

Robert Lewandowski had earlier fired the hosts in front, while 18-year-old academy graduate Marc Bernal capped the victory with his first senior goal late on.

Second-placed Real Madrid can trim the gap back to a single point if they defeat Valencia on Sunday.

Barcelona struck first in the 29th minute after Marcus Rashford drove down the left flank and forced a block in the box.

The loose ball fell to Lewandowski, who calmly brought it under control, slipped past a defender and finished with typical precision.

Rashford, whose performances have improved as the season has progressed, nearly added a second just before the break. His curling free kick forced an excellent save from goalkeeper Leo Román.

The rebound dropped to Jules Koundé inside the area, but his mishit effort rolled to Yamal on the goal line. To the disbelief of the home crowd, the young winger sliced his shot wide, prompting a reassuring pat on the back from Lewandowski.

Yamal made amends in spectacular fashion in the 61st minute. Drifting past a defender on the edge of the area, he unleashed a powerful, dipping left-footed strike into the bottom corner, leaving Román rooted to the spot.

Both Yamal and Lewandowski were substituted to applause before Bernal wrapped up the win in the 83rd minute.

Barcelona carved Mallorca open with a slick passing move, sending the teenager through on goal. He kept his composure, cut inside a defender and slotted the ball neatly inside the post to complete an emphatic victory.
