La Liga: Real Sociedad crush Osasuna 3-1 to boost European hopes

Real Sociedad climbed to seventh place in La Liga after securing a convincing 3–1 victory over CA Osasuna at the Anoeta Stadium.

Seeking their 10th league win of the season, Sociedad began brightly but nearly fell behind early on when Víctor Muñoz connected with a cross from Rafael Moro, only to see his header strike the post.

That close call appeared to wake up the hosts. Mikel Oyarzabal soon found himself unmarked inside the box, but the Sociedad captain somehow fired wide from close range.

The breakthrough eventually arrived from the penalty spot after Enzo Boyomo handled the ball in the area. Oyarzabal stepped up and calmly converted to give the home side the lead.

Sociedad quickly built on that advantage as Gonçalo Guedes doubled the lead. The Portuguese winger cut inside from the left flank and, given plenty of space, drilled a low effort into the bottom corner beyond goalkeeper Sergio Herrera.

Osasuna almost responded before the interval when Aimar Oroz curled a dangerous effort toward goal, but it was well dealt with by Sociedad goalkeeper Álex Remiro.

The home side put the result beyond doubt shortly after the restart. A brilliant run from Beñat Turrientes saw him glide past several defenders before setting up Guedes, who smashed a powerful strike into the top corner to make it 3–0.

Although Osasuna struggled to create many clear opportunities, they did manage a late consolation.

Muñoz combined neatly with Kike Barja before firing a fierce shot past Remiro from a tight angle.

Sociedad comfortably saw out the remainder of the match to extend their unbeaten home run to eight games.

For Osasuna, however, the defeat extends their winless run to three matches and dents their hopes of securing European qualification.
