Real Betis maintained their perfect start to the 2026/27 La Liga season with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Valencia at the Mestalla on Tuesday.
The visitors secured consecutive 1-0 wins after Pablo Garcia struck in the 83rd minute, leaving Valencia frustrated after dominating much of the contest.
Valencia started brightly and created the better chances in the opening stages.
Betis goalkeeper Alvaro Valles was forced into two early saves, first stopping Arnaut Danjuma at his near post before denying Ryunosuke Sato from the rebound.
The hosts continued to control proceedings, but their failure to convert their opportunities proved costly.
Danjuma fired wide midway through the first half, while Mouctar Diakhaby headed off target from a corner.
Betis struggled to make an attacking impact before the break and failed to register a shot on target.
Valencia resumed the second half with the same intensity, continuing to threaten the Betis defence.
Sato saw a double effort blocked inside the box as the hosts searched for the breakthrough.
Both managers made changes shortly after the hour mark, but the match appeared destined to end without a goal.
However, Just as it looked like the game was petering out to a goalless stalemate, Betis stunned the hosts, breaking the deadlock in the 83rd minute.
Two substitutions combined as Fran Garcia broke down the left flank before his early cross into the box was slotted home by Pablo Garcia.
Valencia pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Betis held firm to claim all three points.
The victory means Betis have started a LaLiga campaign with consecutive wins for the first time since 2022.
Valencia, meanwhile, have now won only one of their last 10 matches played in August, suffering six defeats and three draws during that run.
The result also leaves Valencia without a goal in their opening two home matches, increasing the pressure on Carlos Corberan’s side.
