Club Atlético Osasuna and Deportivo Alavés played out a dramatic 2-2 draw at Mendizorroza Stadium on Sunday night, in a match that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
Osasuna got off to a flying start, taking the lead in just the fourth minute when defender Valentin Rosier finished a precise cross from midfielder Kike Barja.
The visitors controlled the early stages, testing Sergio Herrera with several threatening attempts.
Alavés gradually grew into the contest, and just before halftime, forward Toni Martínez broke through Osasuna’s defense to level the score with a clinical right-footed strike.
The second half remained tightly contested until Osasuna coach Alessio Lisci brought on forward Víctor Muñoz, whose movement created additional attacking chances.
Muñoz was fouled in the penalty area, and Ante Budimir converted from the spot to put Osasuna ahead.
Drama struck in stoppage time when VAR reviewed a foul by Osasuna defender Alejandro Catena on Martínez.
Despite the play having already ended, a penalty was awarded, and Lucas Boyé stepped up to net from 12 yards, ensuring the match finished 2-2.
Osasuna will next host Real Betis at El Sadar on Sunday, April 12, with kickoff at 2 p.m. local time (1 p.m. BST, 8 a.m. ET).
