Rubén García inspired Osasuna to a crucial 2–0 victory on Monday night, lifting the club further away from the relegation battle while deepening Levante’s struggles at the bottom of La Liga.
In a clash featuring two sides desperate for points, 18th-placed Osasuna took charge right from the first whistle. García, once a key figure at Levante, was at the heart of everything positive for the hosts.
The breakthrough came in the 13th minute when his pinpoint cross found Víctor Muñoz, who guided a composed header into the net.
Just before the interval, García doubled the advantage with a low strike from the edge of the area, helped by a wicked deflection that wrong-footed goalkeeper Mathew Ryan. Out of respect for his former club, he opted for a muted celebration.
“I would have preferred not to score against Levante,” García admitted. “But these three points were absolutely necessary for us.”
The win moves Osasuna up to 15th spot, now holding a three-point cushion above the relegation zone, while Levante remain rooted to the bottom with only nine points and now suffering their fifth straight defeat.
