Atlético Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann marked his 500th appearance for the club in memorable fashion, providing the decisive assist in a 1–0 win over Girona before an emotional farewell to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano crowd in what was his final home outing for the Spanish side.
Griezmann’s clever movement and sharp vision unlocked the game in the 21st minute, as he slipped into space and delivered a low, precise cross for Ademola Lookman to finish from close range.
Girona had threatened early through Bryan Gil, while goalkeeper Jan Oblak stood firm for Atlético with a series of important stops, including a late intervention to deny Claudio Echeverri.
The visitors came close through Paulo Gazzaniga’s resistance in goal, with the keeper keeping out efforts from Griezmann and Lookman, while Dávid Hancko struck the woodwork from a set piece.
Atlético continued to press after the break, with Lookman and substitute Alexander Sørloth both going close, but Gazzaniga and Oblak remained central figures as chances flowed at both ends.
As the final whistle confirmed a vital three points that moved Atlético level with Villarreal in the table and left third place to be decided on the final day, the night ultimately belonged to Griezmann.
He received a prolonged standing ovation from 64,396 supporters, followed by a guard of honour, an on-pitch interview, and a tribute montage celebrating his years in red and white.
