La Liga: Ferran Torres bags brace as Barcelona brat Getafe 3-0

Ferran Torres starred for Barcelona as they closed in on La Liga leaders Real Madrid, securing a 3-0 victory over Getafe and reducing the gap to just two points.

The Spaniard struck twice in the first half. He opened the scoring after 15 minutes, slotting home from a Dani Olmo cutback, before doubling his tally 20 minutes later, calmly converting a pass from Raphinha for his fourth league goal of the season.

Marcus Rashford, who had shone in Barcelona’s midweek Champions League triumph over Newcastle, came on for Raphinha at halftime and quickly made his mark.

The England forward set up Olmo for Barcelona’s third, rounding off a composed finish that sealed the win.

Getafe threatened early when Mario Martín fouled Jules Koundé 25 yards out, but a carefully worked free-kick fell short as Raphinha blazed over.

Barcelona controlled possession but faced a physical and disciplined Getafe side, whose defensive approach led to numerous minor fouls.

The opening goal was a moment of brilliance. Raphinha threaded a precise pass to Olmo, who back-heeled the ball into Torres’ path, allowing him to fire home with clinical precision.

Barcelona nearly added more before the half-hour mark as Lewandowski slid in at Pedri’s low cross, but just missed contact.

Raphinha briefly dampened his own spirits with a booking in the 32nd minute but quickly made amends, sprinting from midfield to feed Torres, who calmly finished behind a static defense.

The crossbar denied Torres a first-half hat-trick as Barcelona entered the break firmly in control.

Getafe had a chance to get back in early after the restart when Koundé inadvertently played the ball into Javi Muñoz’s path, but his effort narrowly missed.

Rashford then orchestrated Barcelona’s third goal, playing Olmo into space after cutting inside from the right, who finished emphatically to wrap up the win.

Rashford continued to press late in the game, twice denied by keeper David Soria, but Barcelona comfortably saw out the match, dominating possession and territory without further addition to the scoreline.
