Espanyol rescued a point in dramatic fashion as they held Sevilla to a 1-1 draw in their La Liga encounter at Cornellà on Sunday.
Sevilla appeared to be heading for victory after Lucas Stassin put the visitors ahead in the 84th minute.
Stassin, who had just come off the bench, reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the six-yard box to score his first goal for Sevilla.
The visitors had been reduced to 10 men in the 55th minute following Sangante’s sending-off, but they looked set to hold on for all three points.
Espanyol, however, continued to push forward and were rewarded deep into stoppage time when Marcos Fernández equalised in the 97th minute after the ball came back off the crossbar.
The home side had earlier seen a goal from Omar El Hilali ruled out in the 61st minute following a VAR review for offside.
Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrović also produced important saves to keep his side in the contest as Espanyol increased the pressure.
The late equaliser left both teams disappointed, with Sevilla missing the chance to secure a valuable away win while Espanyol earned a dramatic point with virtually the final kick of the match.
