Osasuna secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Getafe at El Sadar on Sunday, with Ante Budimir’s stoppage-time penalty proving enough to settle a closely contested La Liga encounter.
The decisive moment came in the second minute of added time in the first half after a VAR review awarded Osasuna a penalty.
Budimir stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to give the hosts the lead.
Getafe enjoyed greater possession after the interval and completed more passes than their opponents, but they struggled to turn their dominance into clear-cut opportunities.
Osasuna, meanwhile, defended their advantage with discipline and restricted the visitors to just one effort on target throughout the match.
Budimir makes the difference
Budimir was the standout figure for Osasuna, not only scoring the winning goal but also providing a focal point for the home attack.
The striker constantly battled with Getafe’s defenders, winning fouls and holding up play as Osasuna looked to protect their lead. His penalty, which came after a lengthy VAR assessment, ultimately proved decisive.
Sergio Herrera also played an important role for the hosts, producing a composed performance in goal as Getafe increased the pressure during the second half.
Getafe dominate possession but lack cutting edge
Getafe finished the game with 455 completed passes compared with Osasuna’s 382 and controlled 64 per cent of possession after the break.
However, their territorial advantage failed to produce enough danger in front of goal.
They managed 11 shots but only one was on target, while two promising chances went unconverted.
Their crossing was also ineffective, with only three of 22 deliveries finding a teammate.
Kiko Femenía was one of Getafe’s brighter players, completing 60 of his 63 passes and creating a big chance.
Ramón Terrats also threatened from midfield with four attempts, while Orel Mangala made several progressive runs through the Osasuna defence.
Osasuna stand firm defensively
The hosts’ defensive organisation was crucial as Getafe pushed for an equaliser.
Osasuna recorded 24 clearances and six interceptions, while their players also won a higher percentage of their tackles than the visitors.
Getafe had the better of the aerial battles, but Osasuna were effective in ground duels and consistently disrupted attacks before they could develop into dangerous chances.
Despite spending long periods on the ball, Getafe could not find the final pass or finish needed to break through.
VAR drama and substitutions
The match featured several VAR-related moments, including an earlier review that did not result in a penalty for Osasuna before the spot-kick was eventually awarded shortly before half-time.
There was also a second-half review involving a potential Getafe goal, but the effort did not count.
Both sides were forced into changes during the game. Osasuna lost Jorge Herrando to injury in the first half, while Aimar Oroz also went off injured after the break.
Getafe made several substitutions as they searched for an equaliser, including bringing on Borja Mayoral late in the match in an attempt to add more attacking threat.
However, Osasuna held firm through the closing stages to claim all three points.
The result was ultimately decided by one moment of quality from Budimir and a disciplined defensive display from the home side, leaving Getafe to rue their lack of precision in the final third.
