The Kwara State Government has withdrawn the operational licenses of 37 private motor parks across the state and recertified only 12 after a comprehensive compliance inspection focused on transport and environmental safety standards.
The announcement was made on Wednesday during a formal ceremony held in Ilorin, where certificates were presented to the 12 newly accredited operators by the state Ministry of Transportation.
According to the Ministry’s spokesperson, Alabere Ahmed, the certified motor parks include: Ilorin Emirate Transport Service, KASMAG Line, Success Express Transport Service, RASYAU Travel & Tours Ltd, Fayos Motors Transport Service, Okin Motors & Sons Nig. Ltd, Alubarika Decency Motors, Femali (FM) Nig. Ltd, Bekki & Sons Motors, Young Legacy Line, Royal Ryders Super Express, and Laraku Motors.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Aliyu Kora-Sabi, stated that the recertification exercise was part of the government’s deliberate strategy to enforce safety and environmental protocols.
“By certifying these parks, we are giving our people access to safer, cleaner and more organized transport systems. These parks are not just terminals—they are essential to the security and well-being of our commuters,” he said. “This is about our collective responsibility to ensure road safety and a healthier travel experience.”
Kora-Sabi also praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his leadership and ongoing commitment to the welfare of residents, noting the introduction of Compressed Natural Gas buses as a significant step toward reducing transport costs for citizens amid economic challenges.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Salau Kabiru Abdullahi, highlighted that the recertification process involved rigorous inspection of all 49 private motor parks within Ilorin and surrounding areas.
“This exercise is continuous. The facilities of all the parks were examined, and only those that met the criteria were recertified. The aim is to ensure a safer and more conducive environment for both operators and passengers,” he explained.
Also speaking, the Director of Transport, Engr. Michael Bamidele, emphasized that only 12 parks met the minimum regulatory requirements for recertification, which includes structural integrity, sanitation, and operational safety.
Representing the certified operators, the CEO of KASMAG Line, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Omoola, expressed gratitude to the government and assured that the operators would uphold the required standards.
“We appreciate the government’s effort in sanitizing the transport system. We pledge to continue working hand-in-hand to enhance public safety and service quality,” Omoola said.
The event was attended by several top government officials, including the Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport, Hon. Ibrahim Orire; Senior Special Assistant on Security, Alhaji Muyideen Aliyu; and Technical Assistant on Transport, Alhaji Musibau Abubakar. Also present were representatives of the Police, NSCDC, Federal Road Safety Corps, and various transport unions.
The state government reiterated its warning that unlicensed parks operating without compliance to regulatory standards will be sanctioned as part of its broader plan to revamp the transport sector for public good.
