King Charles III has officially received Nigeria’s new High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Aminu Muhammad Dalhatu, in a formal ceremony held at St James’s Palace.
The High Commissioner was accompanied by his wife during the audience with the monarch, where he presented his Letters of Credence, a formal diplomatic document that confirms his appointment as Nigeria’s representative in the United Kingdom.
The ceremony took place on May 6, 2026, marking the official commencement of his diplomatic assignment in London. Such presentations are a key tradition in international diplomacy, symbolising mutual recognition between states and the formal start of a diplomat’s mission in a host country.
Receiving new envoys at St James’s Palace is part of the established royal protocol in the United Kingdom, reflecting the role of the monarchy in diplomatic engagements and international relations.
The event highlights the continued importance placed on diplomatic representation between both nations.
Nigeria and the United Kingdom maintain longstanding bilateral relations covering areas such as trade, security cooperation, education, and cultural exchange.
The presentation of credentials by Mr Dalhatu is seen as part of ongoing efforts to further strengthen those ties and promote collaboration between both countries.
