Kebbi govt denies hiring Chinese firm to fight banditry

Army rescues 17 kidnapped victims in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Government has debunked reports circulating on social media alleging that it engaged a Chinese security company, G-Safety, to help combat banditry and other forms of insecurity in the state.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, described the reports as “false, misleading, and completely baseless.” He urged residents to disregard the claims, stressing that Governor Nasir Idris’ administration had not entered into any agreement with any foreign security firm.

“The attention of the Kebbi State Government has been drawn to a recent media report claiming that the state government hired a Chinese security firm, G-Safety, to tackle banditry and related crimes. The government wishes to categorically state that no such agreement or contract has been signed,” the statement read in part.

Idris noted that the state remains committed to strengthening security through collaboration with established Nigerian security agencies, including the military, police, and other paramilitary organisations.

He added that the administration’s top priority is to guarantee the safety of lives and property across all parts of Kebbi, while supporting ongoing security operations and community peace initiatives.

“The government of Dr. Nasir Idris is determined to ensure lasting peace and the protection of every resident. We urge the public and the media to always verify information from official sources before publication to avoid spreading misinformation capable of causing unnecessary tension,” Idris said.

The statement reaffirmed that since assuming office, Governor Idris has made security one of his administration’s central focuses, providing logistical and moral support to law enforcement agencies to restore peace to affected communities.
