The Kano State Hisbah Board has warned prospective participants in the state government’s mass wedding programme against paying money to individuals claiming to facilitate their registration.
The warning was issued on Wednesday by the Deputy Commander-General of the board, Dr Mujahideen Aminuddeen, in Kano, following reports that some people were demanding payment from intending beneficiaries.
Aminuddeen said the mass wedding programme was fully funded by the Kano State Government and that registration and participation were free of charge.
He explained that Governor Abba Yusuf had approved funding for the programme, including wedding clothing, furniture, transportation of the furniture and start-up capital for beneficiaries.
According to him, neither officials of the Hisbah Board nor any government representative had been authorised to collect money from people seeking to benefit from the programme.
He urged members of the public who were approached for payment to immediately report such individuals to the Hisbah Board or relevant security agencies for investigation and possible prosecution.
Aminuddeen said, “The governor has paid for everything. Nobody should pay for anything because the entire programme is completely free.”
He advised prospective beneficiaries to be wary of fraudsters who might attempt to exploit the programme by demanding money under the guise of helping them secure registration or inclusion.
The Hisbah Board reiterated that no payment was required at any stage of the registration process and urged the public to rely only on official channels for information about the mass wedding programme.
