Kano Hisbah outlaws mobile movie download, distribution business

The Kano State Hisbah Board has banned the downloading and distribution of movies through mobile phones across the state’s 44 local government areas, saying the measure is intended to uphold public morality and promote Islamic values.

The directive was announced on Thursday by the Deputy Commander General of the board, Dr Mujahid Aminuddeen, in a message circulated via WhatsApp.

According to Aminuddeen, the decision followed complaints that some operators engaged in the business were distributing pornographic films and other video content considered contrary to Islamic teachings and the cultural values of Kano State.

“The Hisbah board has banned downloading and distribution of movies through mobile phones across the 44 local government areas in the state,” he said.

He disclosed that Hisbah personnel had been deployed across the state to ensure compliance with the directive through routine patrols and enforcement activities.

“The board has deployed its personnel to monitor compliance through routine patrols and enforcement operations across the state. Anyone found violating the directive will face legal action in accordance with the laws of Kano State,” Aminuddeen said.

The deputy commander urged individuals affected by the ban to pursue other lawful means of livelihood, explaining that the move was aimed at protecting young people from exposure to harmful content and preserving societal values.

He also linked the increasing rate of moral decline among youths to the consumption of indecent films and videos.
