Brazilian football legend, Kaká, has been inducted into the AC Milan Hall of Fame following an emotional ceremony in front of thousands of supporters at the San Siro stadium in Italy.
The former midfielder received the honour on Saturday ahead of AC Milan’s Serie A derby encounter against city rivals Inter Milan.
Kaká, who enjoyed two spells with the Italian giants between 2003 and 2009, and again from 2013 to 2014, remains one of the most celebrated players in the club’s history.
During his first spell, he helped Milan win several major honours, including the Serie A title and UEFA Champions League.
He also claimed the prestigious Ballon d’Or in 2007 after an outstanding season.
The Brazilian’s induction was particularly emotional as supporters gave him a standing ovation, celebrating his contributions to the club.
Overwhelmed by the reception, the 44-year-old was moved to tears.
Ahead of the derby, Kaká had expressed his affection for the club and recalled scoring his first goal against Inter in October 2003, when Milan secured a 3-2 victory.
In a letter addressed to the supporters, he said, “Dear Milan fans, the derby match will remain etched in my memory, and scoring my first goal during it was truly a unique feeling. Some magical moments are unforgettable, and some kinds of love never end.”
He added, “Forza Milan!”
Meanwhile, AC Milan celebrated the occasion with a convincing 3-1 victory over Inter in the derby.
Christian Pulisic opened the scoring in the fourth minute before Adrien Rabiot doubled the advantage six minutes later, with Diego Moreira providing assists for both goals.
Alessandro Bastoni pulled one back for Inter in the 22nd minute, but Moreira restored Milan’s two-goal advantage in the 43rd minute to seal the victory.
The result extended Milan’s unbeaten run against Inter to eight consecutive derby matches across all competitions, comprising six victories and two draws.
