Kaduna ADC expels deputy chairman, eight others over alleged misconduct

The Kaduna State chapter of the African Democratic Congress has been plunged into crisis following the expulsion of its Deputy Chairman, Ahmed Mustapha, and eight other key officials over alleged gross misconduct, insubordination, and attempts to usurp the party’s leadership structure.

The decision to expel the affected members was reached during an emergency meeting of the State Executive Committee held in Kaduna on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Party insiders described the move as “a necessary step to restore discipline and internal order.”

Those affected by the sanction include the State Publicity Secretary, Idris Musa; Vice Chairman (Zone 1), Sulaiman Abdullahi; Treasurer, Gambo Sani; Financial Secretary, Magaji Maiwada; and Legal Adviser, Danlami Dabai Musa. Others are the Coordinator of Persons with Disabilities, Saura Muhammed; Deputy Youth Leader, Ibrahim Muhammed; and Mansur Gaga.

According to a communiqué issued after the meeting, the expelled members were accused of holding secret meetings to plan leadership changes, forging party documents, and extorting money from members — actions described as “a direct violation of the ADC constitution.”

Speaking during a press briefing after the meeting, the Kaduna State ADC Chairman, Elder Patrick Ambut, said the party acted within its constitutional powers to preserve its integrity.

“We cannot allow acts that threaten the unity and lawful operations of our party to persist. As law-abiding members of the ADC, we are committed to discipline, transparency, and the rule of law,” Ambut stated.

He added that the disciplinary process followed due procedure as provided in the party’s constitution and enjoyed the unanimous backing of the SEC, local government chairmen, and other stakeholders.

“No individual, regardless of position, is above the law of the party. The Deputy Chairman and others acted without authorization and engaged in conduct capable of destabilizing the ADC, not just in Kaduna but across the North-West zone,” he said.

Ambut accused Mustapha of abuse of office, impersonation, and attempting to impose himself as a parallel authority within the party structure.

“The Deputy Chairman lacks the constitutional authority to convene meetings or issue directives on behalf of the ADC. His actions amount to gross misconduct and a violation of established party protocols,” the chairman added.

Following the expulsions, the SEC appointed the Deputy State Publicity Secretary, Alex Tagwai, as the Acting Publicity Secretary to fill the vacancy and maintain smooth communication within the party.

“Mr. Tagwai will immediately assume the responsibilities of the publicity office to ensure effective coordination and prevent communication gaps,” Ambut said.

He urged members to remain loyal to the constituted leadership and warned that further acts of indiscipline would attract strict sanctions.

“We call on all genuine members of the ADC to stay united and focused. Any attempt to cause division will be met with appropriate disciplinary measures,” Ambut cautioned.

The ADC leadership in Kaduna reiterated its commitment to upholding the party’s values and strengthening its grassroots structures ahead of future elections.
