Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, vowed Thursday to unleash the biblical 10 plagues of Egypt on Yemen’s Huthi rebels, following a surge in their missile attacks against the country.
“The Huthis are firing missiles at Israel again. A plague of darkness, a plague of the firstborn, we will complete all 10 plagues,” Katz wrote on X, referring to the ten calamities described in the Book of Exodus that God inflicted upon Egypt to persuade Pharaoh to release the enslaved Israelites.
Earlier in the day, the Israeli army reported that a missile launched from Yemen struck outside Israeli territory, coming a day after the interception of two Huthi missiles.
Huthi military spokesman Yahya Saree claimed the rebels had targeted Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport with a ballistic missile.
The Iran-backed Huthis have promised to intensify their attacks on Israel following the deaths of their prime minister and 11 senior officials in Israeli airstrikes last week.
Since the Gaza conflict erupted in October 2023, the Huthis have repeatedly launched drones and missiles at Israel, framing their attacks as support for the Palestinians.
In response, Israel has conducted multiple retaliatory strikes across Yemen, targeting ports, power stations, and the international airport in Sanaa, the capital under rebel control.
