The Independent National Electoral Commission has called on residents of Anambra State to resist any form of vote buying or electoral inducement as the November 8 gubernatorial election approaches.
The Commission emphasized that the credibility of the electoral process depends largely on the integrity and consciousness of the electorate.
In a message shared via its official X handle on Thursday, INEC warned that exchanging votes for money or material rewards erodes the democratic process and stalls genuine progress in society.
It reminded voters that selling their votes for temporary benefits could deny them long-term opportunities for growth and good governance.
“Reject stomach infrastructure. Demand real development. Say NO to vote buying,” the Commission wrote, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible election across Anambra’s 21 local government areas.
INEC also urged political parties, their candidates, and supporters to focus their campaigns on issues that truly matter to citizens.
According to the electoral body, discussions should center on concrete policies, developmental plans, and social welfare programmes that can uplift the people, rather than exploiting the economic challenges facing many voters.
The Commission further assured the public that it is working closely with security agencies and other stakeholders to curb electoral malpractice and ensure that the will of the people prevails.
It appealed to voters to participate peacefully and responsibly on election day, emphasizing that the future of Anambra State depends on the choices made at the ballot box.
