The Independent National Electoral Commission in Nasarawa State has announced that a total of 35,013 people have been registered so far in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Shehu Wahab, disclosed this on Monday during a press briefing in Lafia.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the online segment of the registration began on Aug. 18, followed by physical registration on Aug. 25.
The REC noted that the first quarter of the exercise, which spanned four weeks, is scheduled to conclude on Dec. 10.
Breaking down the figures, Wahab said 16,122 of the new applicants are male, representing 46.5 per cent, while 18,891, representing 53.9 per cent, are female. He also confirmed that 317 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) have taken part in the process.
Additionally, he reported that 16,941 individuals applied for voter transfers, 9,212 updated their details, and 119 sought replacements for damaged cards.
“These figures are provisional because we will soon undertake the automated biometric identification system clean-up process to identify and remove all invalid registrations.
“This includes multiple registrations, to enable us to come up with a credible and clean register of voters.
“The voter register for the state is still 1,899,244, while 1,847,752 Permanent Voter Cards have been collected.
“At the end of the CRV and clean-up exercise, we will display the preliminary register of voters for claims and objections with a view to updating and producing an authentic voter register for the state,” he explained.
He further revealed that the second phase of the CVR will resume on Jan. 5, 2026, to ensure that every eligible resident gets registered ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The REC bemoaned the low turnout recorded so far and urged qualified citizens to take advantage of the opportunity.
“Those who want to register or update their records should visit INEC state headquarters in Lafia or our offices across the 13 Local Government Areas, between Dec. 10 and Jan 5, 2026.”
Wahab assured that additional registration centres would be set up across electoral wards to make the process easier for prospective registrants during the next phase of the exercise.
