INEC disowns 2027 ad-hoc recruitment notice, warns Nigerians against fake portal

The Independent National Electoral Commission has disowned an online notice claiming that it has commenced the recruitment and training of ad-hoc personnel for the 2027 general elections.

The commission, in a statement issued on Monday, warned Nigerians against responding to the recruitment notice or visiting the website attached to it.

INEC said the fraudulent message had been circulating online and falsely presented the recruitment exercise as an official commission initiative.

“The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission has been drawn to a message circulating online claiming that the Commission is currently recruiting and training ad-hoc staff for the 2027 General Election,” the statement said.

The electoral body stressed that neither the announcement nor the website linked to it was authorised by the commission.

“This information is not from INEC. The website/link being circulated is NOT an official INEC recruitment portal,” it stated.

INEC cautioned members of the public against clicking on the link, submitting personal details, uploading documents or making payments through the platform.

“Members of the public are strongly advised NOT to click on the link, submit personal information, upload documents or make any payment through the platform,” the commission warned.

The electoral body urged Nigerians to obtain information about recruitment and other election-related activities only through its verified communication channels and official platforms.

“INEC’s official recruitment and election-related announcements are published through the Commission’s verified communication channels and official websites,” it said.

For authentic information, the commission directed members of the public to its official website, inecnigeria.org.

INEC noted that it had previously raised concerns over fraudulent websites and recruitment advertisements designed to deceive Nigerians by falsely claiming affiliation with the commission.

“The Commission has previously warned the public about fraudulent websites and fake recruitment advertisements purporting to originate from INEC,” it added.

The electoral body urged Nigerians to disregard the latest notice and refrain from sharing it further.

“Please disregard and do not circulate this false recruitment notice,” INEC said.

It further advised members of the public to verify the authenticity of online recruitment information before clicking on links or submitting personal details.

“Stay informed. Stay safe. Always verify before you click,” the commission stated.
