An officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, identified as Benson Akpama, was discovered dead in his Calabar apartment over the weekend.
Vanguard gathered that the 30-year-old officer was found in his room at No. 34 Mbora Street, Etta-Agbor, Calabar Municipality.
An eyewitness, who preferred to remain anonymous, told Vanguard that Joy Benson, a sibling of the deceased residing on Holland Street, alerted the police about her younger brother’s sudden and “unnatural” death on Friday.
The police immediately responded to the scene and observed the remains.
According to police sources, there were no visible signs of violence on the body, and foul play was not initially suspected. The corpse was later taken to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
When contacted, the State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, confirmed the incident.
“We are investigating the matter, but no arrest has been made so far, but we will keep you abreast as we progress,” he said.
