I’m not Ronaldo, 2026 W’Cup will be my last – Mahrez

Algerian winger, Riyad Mahrez, has revealed that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will mark his final outing for the national team.

The Al Ahli forward made the announcement after inspiring Algeria to a convincing 3-0 victory over Somalia in a World Cup qualifier, a result that sealed their qualification for the tournament.

Speaking to Algerian media after the game, Mahrez vowed to give his all for the Desert Foxes when the tournament kicks off.

“This will be my last World Cup. I’m not Ronaldo,” Mahrez said.

“I’ll give everything I have to represent Algeria in the best possible way.

“I thank God for this important win. I’m happy to have helped with two assists, but the most important thing is that we’ve officially qualified.”

Before moving to Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia, Mahrez enjoyed a remarkable career in the English Premier League, where he became one of Africa’s most successful players.

He was a key figure in Leicester City’s historic 2015/16 title triumph, winning the PFA Player of the Year award, and later lifted multiple league titles and domestic trophies with Manchester City, playing a crucial role in Pep Guardiola’s dominant era.
