Ikeja Electric blames reduced power supply to Inadequate grid allocation

Electricity consumers within the Ikeja Electric distribution network are experiencing shorter hours of power supply following a reduction in the electricity allocated to the company from the national grid.

The distribution company announced this in a public notice posted on its official X account on Monday, October 19, 2026, explaining that the available allocation was insufficient to sustain its regular supply schedule.

In the notice, which addressed the prevailing power supply constraints, Ikeja Electric acknowledged the difficulties faced by customers and attributed the disruptions to the limited electricity received from the national grid.

The company expressed regret over the situation and appealed to consumers to remain patient while measures were being taken to improve supply.

According to Ikeja Electric, the quantity of electricity available for distribution across its network has been affected by the shortfall, limiting its ability to maintain the usual supply hours.

It added that discussions and engagements with relevant stakeholders were ongoing to resolve the challenge and secure an increased allocation for its customers.

The distribution company further assured consumers that the electricity available would be shared across its network in the most efficient and equitable manner possible.

It also promised to keep customers informed through periodic updates as efforts to address the situation continue.

The latest announcement follows complaints from residents in several parts of Lagos over irregular electricity supply, which has disrupted activities in homes, offices and commercial establishments.

Ikeja Electric had reported a similar challenge on October 5, when it also pointed to inadequate electricity allocation from the national grid as the reason for reduced supply.

The repeated disruptions have heightened concerns among households and businesses that rely on a steady power supply for their daily operations.

Despite acknowledging the problem, the company did not state the volume of electricity currently being supplied to its network or indicate when customers should expect a return to normal supply hours.
