Operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission on Thursday conducted a search at the Abuja residence of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as part of the ongoing investigation involving the ex-governor.
His Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, confirmed the development on his verified X handle, stating, “The Aso Drive residence of Malam Nasir elrufai was today searched by the ICPC.”
The search took place while El-Rufai remains in the custody of the anti-graft agency, as authorities investigate the financial management of Kaduna State during his eight-year tenure from 2015 to 2023.
El-Rufai’s lawyer, Ubong Akpan, criticized the action, calling it “unlawful, and a clear violation of legal procedures and fundamental rights.”
He did not immediately indicate if the legal team would challenge the operation in court or whether any items were seized during the search.
This latest development adds another chapter to the multi-agency scrutiny of El-Rufai’s administration, during which both the ICPC and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have questioned him over alleged financial irregularities.
Attempts to obtain an immediate comment from the ICPC on the reported search were unsuccessful.
