Hull City have completed the signing of Nigerian-born English midfielder Tim Iroegbunam from Everton for an undisclosed fee, with the 23-year-old signing a five-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2031.
The defensive midfielder, who was born in Birmingham, England, began his senior career at Aston Villa after coming through the academy of West Bromwich Albion.
Iroegbunam made his Premier League debut in February 2022, featuring in Villa’s 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion.
He later spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Queens Park Rangers, where he scored twice in 32 Championship appearances.
He was part of the Aston Villa side that secured a fourth-place Premier League finish and reached the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League during the 2023/24 campaign.
The midfielder subsequently joined Everton in the summer of 2024 in a £9m transfer.
He made 21 appearances in his first season with the Toffees before featuring in 29 Premier League matches last season, starting 17 of them.
At international level, Iroegbunam represented England at youth level and was part of the Young Lions squad that won the European Under-19 Championship in 2022. He made 13 appearances across England’s Under-19 and Under-20 teams.
Speaking after completing his move to Hull City, Iroegbunam said:
“I’m very happy. From the first moment I heard about the opportunity to come and join this club, I was excited. Now, it’s finally done. It’s taken a long time but I’m excited to get started.
“Quite early on in pre-season, I heard about the interest. I was just waiting around, then I got injured. I thought it might have been off the cards, but I managed to recover and get right.
“I spoke to the owner and he explained everything about the club. I’m close with ‘Gilo’ (Ryan Giles) – you could call him ‘Agent Gilo’ because he said a lot of things that made me want to come.
“I’ve been around different changing rooms and hopefully I can bring (Premier League) experience on and off the pitch.
“I like to get on the ball and drive the team forward. I like to get involved with big tackles, be aggressive, be on the front foot and show loads of energy.
“The stadium is beautiful – I’ve played here once before. I want to hopefully help this team push and finish as high as we can.”
Iroegbunam will now continue his career with Hull City as the club look to benefit from his Premier League experience and energy in midfield.
