Super Falcons defender, Ashleigh Plumptre, has emphasized the need for a focused and step-by-step approach as Nigeria begins its campaign at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Plumptre, who plies her trade with Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, urged her teammates not to get ahead of themselves with thoughts of lifting a 10th continental title.
Instead, she stressed the importance of concentrating on each match as it comes.
“I don’t really like to talk about the future too much, my aim is to think about the present as much as possible,” the centre-back told the Super Falcons media.
“To take it one game at a time, and have the believe that we can win every games that we play.”
The upcoming tournament marks Plumptre’s second appearance at the WAFCON finals, following her debut in Morocco three years ago where Nigeria finished in fourth place.
Head coach Justine Madugu will be leading the Falcons into their opening Group A fixture against Tunisia later today (Sunday), as the team aims to begin their journey on a strong note.
