Arsenal sweat over Saka, Odegaard injury scares

Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta, has revealed that skipper, Martin Odegaard’s shoulder problem may not be too serious, but Bukayo Saka’s hamstring setback is more concerning after the Gunners’ emphatic 5-0 victory over Leeds United on Saturday.

Odegaard was the first to come off in the opening half with what looked like a shoulder complaint.

Later in the game, Saka also limped off after overstretching to deliver a pass, needing assistance from the medical staff and appearing visibly uncomfortable.

Speaking to the club’s official website after the match, Arteta confirmed both players will undergo medical checks on Sunday.

However, he admitted there is some relief regarding Saka, as the injury is not to the same hamstring that sidelined him for three months last season.

“Martin looked like a shoulder. We’ll have a scan tomorrow, so we’ll see.

“Bukayo had to come off when he was sprinting with a defender, he felt a hamstring, a different one (than last season). We’ll have to speak to the doctors.

“We lost Kai, who is a massive player, and now Bukayo and Martin, that’s why the squad has to be big.”
