Smith-Rowe denies Man Utd first EPL win in Fulham draw

Fulham secured a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Craven Cottage on Sunday, thanks to a late strike from substitute Emile Smith Rowe, leaving Ruben Amorim’s side still searching for their first Premier League win this season.

Smith Rowe capitalized on Alex Iwobi’s precise delivery to cancel out Rodrigo Muniz’s own goal, ending United’s remarkable streak of eight consecutive victories at Craven Cottage.

United captain Bruno Fernandes had earlier squandered a first-half penalty, adding to the visitors’ frustrations.

For the final 40 minutes, United deployed their newly assembled £200 million frontline—Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo, but could only manage a deflected header from teenage centre-back Leny Yoro that ricocheted off Muniz.

Sesko began on the bench, with Mason Mount leading the line and Rasmus Hojlund absent from the squad amid transfer speculation.

The match almost tilted in United’s favor inside two minutes when Mount set up Cunha, whose side-footed attempt slipped through Calvin Bassey’s legs and struck the post.

Fulham’s first real chance came in the 12th minute as Ryan Sessegnon cleverly flicked Josh King through on goal, but visiting goalkeeper Altay Bayindir was quick to make the save.

Despite his shaky performance, Bayindir’s distribution impressed, including a long clearance that nearly led to a United chance.

The game intensified after 30 minutes when VAR reviewed a corner incident involving Bassey and Mount, with replays showing the Fulham defender tossing Mount to the ground in a WWE-style move.

United were left frustrated when Fernandes’s penalty flew over the bar, giving Silva and Bassey a moment of relief.

Amorim introduced Sesko for Casemiro in the 51st minute, and seven minutes later, Yoro met Bryan Mbeumo’s corner with a header that deflected off Muniz and wrongfooted Leno to give United a temporary lead.

However, Fulham fought back in the 72nd minute as Iwobi’s cross was missed by Matthijs de Ligt and neatly tucked home by Smith Rowe.

Late drama came from United substitute Harry Maguire, whose header narrowly missed, ensuring Fulham held on for a hard-earned point.
