Hollywood legend Chuck Norris dies at 86

United States martial artist and Hollywood actor Chuck Norris, widely known for his iconic role in Walker, Texas Ranger, has died at the age of 86, his family announced on March 20.

“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning,” the family said in a statement on Instagram.

They described him as a global icon in martial arts and film, but said his most important roles were within his family.

“To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family.”

The family added that he lived a life defined by faith, discipline, and compassion.

“He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved. Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives,” the statement said.

Reports said Norris fell ill on March 19 while on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.

He had only just marked his 86th birthday last week, celebrating the occasion with a video of himself boxing on social media, where he joked about ageing.

“I don’t age. I level up.”
Norris, a martial arts expert turned Hollywood star, began his acting career with a cameo in the 1968 Dean Martin film The Wrecking Crew.

He later rose to global fame after his memorable fight scene with kung fu legend Bruce Lee in The Way of the Dragon, a moment widely credited with cementing his status as an action film icon.

Marking his birthday last week, he also reflected on staying active and youthful.

“Nothing like some playful action on a sunny day to make you feel young,” Norris said in his birthday message last week.
