President Bola Tinubu has commended the Hausa people for their contributions to Nigeria’s unity, development and cultural identity.
Tinubu made the remarks on Wednesday in a message shared on his official X account to mark Hausa Day, an annual celebration held on August 26 at the historic Daura Palace in Katsina State.
The President described the Hausa people as an important part of the country’s national fabric, noting their influence on Nigeria’s social and economic development.
He said, “The Hausa people are great pillars that play a vital role in the unity and progress of Nigeria.”
Tinubu also highlighted the growing influence of the Hausa language, describing it as an important means of communication that extends beyond Nigeria.
According to him, “The Hausa language, without doubt, has flourished and has become a major language of unity and commerce across the world.”
The President congratulated Hausa communities in Nigeria and around the world as they marked the annual celebration.
He said, “I congratulate the vast Hausa community on the occasion of Hausa Day, which is being celebrated at the historic Daura Palace today.”
Hausa Day, also known as World Hausa Day or Ranar Hausa, is observed annually on August 26 to promote the Hausa language and celebrate its cultural heritage.
The celebration reportedly began as a social media initiative aimed at encouraging the use of Hausa online and raising awareness of the language’s cultural importance.
Over time, the observance has expanded beyond Nigeria, with celebrations held in different parts of Africa and other regions of the world.
Hausa remains one of Nigeria’s major languages and is among the most widely spoken languages in Africa.
