Ghana names Black Stars squad for W’Cup qualifiers

Ghana head coach, Otto Addo, has unveiled a 24-man squad for the crucial final two qualifiers of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring a mix of emerging talent, returning internationals, and domestic standouts.

Among the selections are OGC Nice defender Kojo Peprah Oppong and Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku.

Peprah Oppong, 21, has impressed in his debut season in France’s Ligue 1, earning his first call-up to the senior national team.

His inclusion underscores Addo’s belief in the young defender’s potential to strengthen Ghana’s backline.

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, sidelined since last November with an ACL injury, makes a welcome return after solid performances in England’s Championship.

His pace and creativity on the wing provide a much-needed attacking spark. Rennes defender Alidu Seidu also comes back into the fold after a nine-month absence due to an ACL injury, bolstering the Black Stars’ defensive options.

Adding fresh local talent, Medeama SC’s Prince Owusu earns his first national team call-up following standout displays in the Ghana Premier League.

Ghana’s next challenge comes against the Central African Republic at Stade d’Honneur de Meknes on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, with a 16:00 GMT kick-off.

Four days later, the Black Stars will host Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 19:00 GMT.

Sitting atop Group I with 19 points, Ghana need just four points from the remaining two games to secure qualification for their fifth World Cup appearance, set to be staged across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
