Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has felicitated Muslims in the state and across Nigeria as they celebrate Eid ul-Mawlid, urging them to uphold peace, tolerance and compassion.
Fubara, in a goodwill message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, on Tuesday, called on the Muslim faithful to reflect on the virtues associated with the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
The governor said values such as selflessness, forgiveness, compassion and service to humanity could contribute to peace and positive development in society.
He said, “On this joyous occasion, I pray that Allah (SWT) accepts your prayers, grants you good health, prosperity, and continued peace in our state and nation.”
Fubara said Rivers State remained proud of its religious and cultural diversity, noting that the peaceful coexistence of Christians, Muslims and people of other faiths was important to the state’s development.
“In Rivers State, we are proud of our diversity and the spirit of unity that binds Christians, Muslims, and people of all faiths together,” he said.
The governor appreciated the contributions of Muslim residents to the growth of the state and urged them to continue promoting peaceful relations among different communities.
He added, “Let us continue to cherish our diversity and promote harmony, tolerance, and understanding. May our shared values of compassion, forgiveness, and unity guide us in our daily lives.”
Fubara also assured residents that his administration remained committed to creating an environment where people could live and prosper regardless of their religious or ethnic backgrounds.
He said the government would continue to prioritise peace, security and equal opportunities for all residents of Rivers State.
